Figuring out which pool is best for you!
Pools are an amazing way to spend time with the family. It's often in the summer heat we perform our best belly flops and have the most fun playing Marco Polo.
Pools are great, but they are a huge undertaking. From installation to maintenance and repairs, pools can get pretty interesting. When taking the time to evaluate which pool you should install at your home it can be tough to know what the difference is and which is right for you. Below are a few examples of the pro's and cons of each so that you can make an educated decision.
There are 2 types of pools that are most common in Northeast Indiana and we'll go over those in this section. In this article we are covering in-ground pools and not your typical above ground pool, although, there's nothing wrong with those either.
Fiberglass Insert
Fiber-Glass insert pools are a recent revolution that allow for a different type of install than we are typically used to. These inserts are made from fiber-glass in a factory and can readily be ordered, delivered, and with minimal prep-work, they can be installed in their new home.
Traditional Plaster Pools
These type of pools are the type that you've enjoyed for years and years. They're the same pool you'll usually find at your local parks department public pool or that has been popular for the last 50 years. Although, these pools are scratchy sometimes, they have been well enjoyed by many.
Pros for Fiberglass Pools
Quick Installation: One of the biggest advantages of fiberglass pools is their quick installation time. Fiberglass pools are prefabricated and are delivered to the site in one piece. This means that installation can be completed in as little as a few days.
Easy Maintenance: Fiberglass pools have a smooth surface that does not promote the growth of algae and other bacteria. This means that they require less maintenance than traditional pools. Additionally, they do not require resurfacing or liner replacements.
Durability: Fiberglass pools are made from a durable material that is resistant to cracking, fading, and staining. They can withstand extreme weather conditions and are less likely to develop leaks.
Cons of Fiberglass Pools
Limited Design Options: Fiberglass pools are prefabricated and come in a limited range of sizes and shapes. This means that homeowners may not be able to find a pool that fits their specific needs and preferences.
Expensive: Fiberglass pools are generally more expensive than traditional pools. The cost of the pool itself may be higher, and the installation process may require heavy equipment, which can drive up the overall cost.
Pros for Traditional Pools
Customizable: Traditional pools can be customized to fit any size and shape, making them an excellent choice for homeowners with unique requirements. They can also be designed to match the aesthetics of the home and landscape.
Variety of Materials: Traditional pools can be constructed from a variety of materials, including concrete, vinyl, and gunite. This allows homeowners to choose the material that best suits their needs and preferences.
Investment: Traditional pools are often seen as an investment in the home. They can increase the value of the property and attract potential buyers if the homeowner decides to sell in the future.
Cons of Traditional Pools
Maintenance: Traditional pools require more maintenance than fiberglass pools. The surface of the pool can be rough, promoting the growth of algae and bacteria, which can lead to more frequent cleaning and chemical treatments.
Resurfacing: Over time, traditional pools may require resurfacing or liner replacements. This can be expensive and time-consuming, adding to the overall cost of owning a traditional pool. Longer Installation Time: Traditional pools require more time to install than fiberglass pools. The installation process may take several weeks or even months to complete, depending on the complexity of the design and the materials used.
It's a tough decision, but in the end I know you'll make the right one! The pools of your dreams awaits and all the memories that you desire are not far away. If you'd like to hear more, please reach out and we'd be happy to help you answer some questions about your new adventure!
