Porcelain

In Europe, porcelain pavers are all the rage. Porcelain is durable, beautiful, and low maintenance. You can create different feels and styles while maintaining a refined and crisp look. Porcelain pavers are certainly a style to be reckoned with and will have your neighbors trying to keep up with you.

What is Porcelain?

Porcelain is made from Kaolin Clay. It was developed in China between 1200 an 2000 years ago. It's composition makes it highly resistant to corrosive chemicals, impermeable, high in strength, high in hardness, and resistant to thermal shock.

It is typically decorated and glazed making it highly customizable and desirable for use in decadent outdoor spaces and pool decks.

Why You Would Use Porcelain In Lieu of Standard Pavers.

Porcelain can give you some flexibility in colors and styles that might not be available in pavers. Additionally, since porcelain can be styled with more detail than a paver, you can find some really unique and involved patterns. Some of these patterns mimic wood, some have intricate designs, and some mimic natural stone.

This can provide an advantage over pavers because porcelain is non-porous. Porcelain is not likely to get stained by certain plants that have high acidity content or washout with high iron content. Like anything, it is not impossible to stain porcelain, but it is very hard and takes a lot longer than other options.

An Unfair Advantage

Porcelain pavers are thin, much thinner than the typical 4 inch thick paver that you'll find at most landscape supply houses. This great news for anyone that wants to create a different style in their yard without going through costly tear-out of an existing concrete pad.

It's often a disappointment for new homeowners when a builder installs a concrete front porch pad, or a backyard patio pad and it's either too small or as basic as it gets. Porcelain pavers can utilize the existing concrete as a substrate and the porcelain, in most cases, can be installed directly to

the existing concrete.

Porcelain Can be Installed Anywhere

If you don't have an existing concrete pad and you want porcelain pavers, fret not! Porcelain pavers can be installed on a mortar bed sort of like you would do in a tile shower base. The install process is similar to standard pavers, but may require some extra steps for the mortar bed.
